Change Management

Have you ever read a change textbook and wondered which strategy or theory will work best for you? If so, you're in good company. I have worked with many organisations, including Friends Provident, Compaq, Wates Construction, Sheffield University, Hewlett Packard and Shropshire County Council to ensure their change programmes will deliver lasting change. I can help you to cut through all the jargon and provide you with practical tools to help you and your team achieve success

Merger of two international IT companies

How do you successfully merge two companies when their cultures, processes and strategies are very different? At the top level, it's crucial to make the key decisions swiftly and to communicate them widely. Good leadership is essential, as is constant communication. It's also vital to ensure people at all levels understand what the change means for them, and what the scope for being personally involved is. I worked with senior leaders within Hewlett Packard to help them plan and communicate the changes to business strategy, work processes and the revised company mission and culture. I helped them improve their skills at presenting a positive message and dealing with resistance and conflict. I then developed and ran workshops across the UK with the newly merged teams. The main focus was on encouraging the formation of positive team culture, and helping each employee embrace their new organisation in order to be up and running as swiftly as possible.

“The (change) workshop had a profound impact on the way I led change within my business. Clear, practical, no-nonsense. Unbelievable that such a short input could make such a difference.”
Senior R&D Manager, Hewlett Packard

Navigating change - moving a department to an outsourcing model

Organisations in the current business climate are facing more change than ever before. One recent client decided to move its entire European HR Operations team to an outsourcing model. The biggest challenge was that the 14 managers concerned had to manage this change when they and their (150) people were likely to be adversely affected. They needed to train up staff in the outsourcing company whilst also evaluating jobs and keeping the business moving forward. Can this be done effectively and with integrity? Yes, it can. And leading with integrity is the only way to make this work. I helped the 14 managers and 5 supervisors to lead the change effectively and in a way which matched their personal values. Many of them commented afterwards that this had unexpectedly been one of the most positive periods of their management career, despite the necessity of redundancies. If your organisation is facing a similar situation, I can help your leaders find a path through the complex people challenges.

“I was expecting this to be the worst 6 months of my life. Who wants to make over 60% of your colleagues redundant, and possibly lose your own job at the end? With Helen's guidance, we totally changed our whole attitude towards change management. I recommend her without hesitation.”
